When do children begin to embrace an identity beyond the given?

Something that changed how I see my gender identity.

I asked Indigenous elder Tom Snow how you become an elder and he said:

It takes 2 hours and five days. Good joke.

And then Elder Snow said:

First, you go out on the land and find yourself.

Elder Snow also said:

Two spirited people walk in two worlds.

I am not Indigenous thus I cannot be two spirited.

But I walk in two worlds and my gender identity pronouns are They / Them.
