The Shadows
It’s cool in the shadows
Out of the hot blazing light
Of truth
A great place to hide in plain sight
I did not exist at best and was tormented at worst
A gay teen in rural Alberta
I was raised in the shadows
The darkness of secrecy and lies
At 13 I wanted to die
For my life to be over
I learned to drink, drugs, hide with a smile
My humility shriveled and arrogance grew
A bitter ball tightened my gut
But the blazing light of truth
Revealed my path
Recovery, wellness, and resilience
Out
Of the shadows
